Filipino Community in Lahore Celebrates the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence

LAHORE, 21 June 2026—The Filipino community in Lahore, led by Kabalikat ng Kapwa Pilipino (KKP) and in partnership with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Lahore, commemorated the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a vibrant community celebration held at the Ramada Hotel, Gulberg II, Lahore.

The event was graced by H.E. Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who served as Chief Guest. He was joined by Honorary Consul Mr. Fahdel Sheikh, Philippine Police Attache Col. Wilbert Divine, Filipino community leaders, members of the Filipino community from Lahore and nearby areas, Pakistani friends of the Philippines, and other distinguished guests. The celebration brought together Filipinos from various backgrounds in a meaningful gathering that highlighted patriotism, community solidarity, and pride in Filipino heritage.

In his remarks, Ambassador Fernandez reflected on the significance of Philippine Independence Day as a celebration of the Filipino people’s enduring struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination. He likewise commended the Filipino community in Lahore for preserving Filipino values and culture while serving as ambassadors of goodwill and friendship in Pakistan.

The Ambassador also emphasized the important role played by overseas Filipinos in strengthening people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Pakistan and encouraged the community to remain united, resilient, and actively engaged in promoting a positive image of the Philippines abroad.

Another highlight of the event was the presentation of cultural performances showcasing Filipino talent, creativity, and national pride. Community groups performed songs and dances inspired by well-loved Filipino themes and patriotic music, including Bagong Bayani, Bihag Mo ang Pilipinas, Pananaw, Isang Mundo, Isang Lahi, Awit ng Bahandi, Awit ng Lupa, Ako Ay Pilipino, and Uma Kaya. The performances reflected the diversity and vibrancy of Filipino culture and demonstrated the community’s strong connection to their homeland.

The celebration also featured a ceremonial cake-cutting, the presentation of plaques of appreciation to Ambassador Fernandez, Honorary Consul Fahdel Sheikh, and event sponsors, as well as the presentation of certificates to newly elected KKP officers.

In his remarks, Honorary Consul Sheikh reaffirmed his continued support for the Filipino community and highlighted the importance of fostering closer ties between Filipinos and Pakistanis through cultural and community engagement.

The gathering concluded with fellowship, dinner, and renewed expressions of unity among members of the Filipino community.The celebration formed part of the Philippine Embassy’s month-long commemoration of the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence across Pakistan, reflecting the enduring patriotism of overseas Filipinos and the Embassy’s continuing commitment to strengthening ties with Filipino communities throughout the country.
