Philippine Embassy in Islamabad Commemorates World Refugee Day

ISLAMABAD, 22 June 2026—The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Islamabad joined the international community in commemorating World Refugee Day through a simple but meaningful program held after the Embassy’s regular flag-raising ceremony.

As part of the observance, Vice Consul Rain R. Mendoza read the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for National Refugee Day, which reaffirmed the Philippines’ longstanding commitment to compassion, protection, and solidarity for refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons. The President highlighted the country’s proud tradition of providing refuge and opportunities for those forced to flee conflict, violence, persecution, and discrimination, emphasizing that safeguarding human dignity is both a humanitarian imperative and a responsibility of a just society.

The Embassy also screened a video presentation highlighting the Philippines’ historic role in opening its doors to refugees and displaced persons seeking safety, protection, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives. The presentation served as a reminder of the Philippines’ enduring commitment to humanitarian principles, human rights, and international solidarity.

In support of the observance, Embassy personnel wore blue as a symbol of solidarity with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, and stateless individuals around the world. The gesture reflected the Embassy’s recognition of the resilience and courage of those who have been uprooted from their homes and communities in search of safety and a better future.

The commemoration also provided an opportunity for personnel to reflect on the importance of promoting inclusion, compassion, and respect for human dignity, as well as the role that governments, institutions, and individuals can play in supporting vulnerable populations.

Through its participation in World Refugee Day, the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to humanitarian values and to building a more inclusive, compassionate, and just world where every individual is treated with dignity and respect. END
